The Foldout Cat is Flexible!

WednesdayS:
Mid-Week Weaving Break 3-5 pm

Weaving leads us in directions we hadn’t even dreamt of. Come take a break and EXPLORE it! No weaving experience necessary, and there are NO MISTAKES. So don’t worry about doing it “right”: trust us, you cannot do it wrong. At the Foldout Cat, we practice imperfection every day, and we encourage you to do so as well.

Join us for a guided adventure through color and texture in weaving on our black cotton class warps. Looms will be warped and ready for you. You select colors, materials, and textures from our student wall and treasures collection, then spend the next two hours creating a fabric that is ALL yours. At the end of your exploration, you'll take home the fabric you created and put it to whatever use you desire.

FridayS:
Weekend Weavening 5:30-7:30 pm

Attracted to color, light, and life? Looking for a way to express your creative spirit that doesn’t break the bank—or the brain? Come EXPERIMENT with some of the possibilities weaving has to offer—with a bit of spirited assistance!

You don’t need any prior weaving experience—and you cannot do it wrong. Truly: there are NO MISTAKES! At the Foldout Cat, we practice imperfection every day, and we encourage you to do so as well. And what better way to do that than seeing where your artistic self (yes, you have one) chooses to go with the creative tools we’ll give you and a thoughtfully provided adult (or not) beverage to free your mind?

We’ll supply the looms (already set up for weaving) and the weaving materials (all sorts of yarn, fiber, beads, and other entertaining ingredients). If you want us to, we’ll also lay in a bit of good local beer or legitimately drinkable vino (just choose the BEER or WINE option when you register). Alternatively, if you like, you can bring a modest amount of your own tipple of choice (choose the BYOB option when you register). We’ll have iced tea and water on hand for your delectation, so if you’d prefer to explore the wonders of weaving without the interjection of alcohol, choose BYOB and know we’ve got you covered. Regardless of beverage preference, everyone who raises their hand for this event will have crunchy snacks available on which to nom—popcorn, potato chips, and the like. Weaving is hungry work, y’all!

Trust us on this: anyone can weave, and you are no exception. Come to a weavening, raise a glass (of something) to the creative spirit we all possess, and prove to yourself that you, too, are an artist. You can do this. We’ve got you.

The fine print:

  • Offered monthly. Select your date when you register and pay!

  • Price per participant depends on option chosen. In all cases, fee includes loom rental, all weaving materials and tools, and your completed cloth to take home. No additional materials fee for this event.

  • 6 participant slots (of all three options combined) per session.

  • Open solely and only to folks over 21 years of age. Exception: if a group gets together and reserves all 6 slots on a given date for an alcohol-free weavening, up to 5 of those slots may be filled by folks below the age of 21 (the 6th must be filled by an adult 21+).

  • If you’re not down with the group thing and/or also not yet at the specified age for a regular weavening, fret not: we offer three other scheduled classes a month (see elsewhere on this page for details) and also teach at students’ convenience by appointment, so options abound!

SaturdayS:
Weave Your (HE)ART 4:30-5:30 pm

Spent your Saturday shopping at the Barking Dog Arts Artist Market and elsewhere in the richness that is Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment? Enjoyed all the wonderful artistic options and opportunities? Gloried in the creative spirit and the abundance of color and life? But still don’t consider yourself an artist? At the Foldout Cat, we practice imperfection every day, and we encourage you to do so as well.

Select colors, materials, and textures from our student wall and treasures collection, then spend the next hour creating a fabric that is ALL yours. At the end of your exploration you'll take home the fabric you created - and who knows where your creative spirit will take you next?
